あらすじ
西暦2801年を宇宙暦1年とした遥かな未来。宇宙に進出した人類は、専制政治を敷く銀河帝国と民主共和政を唱える自由惑星同盟の二大勢力に分かれ、150年にもわたる断続的な戦争を続けていた。
宇宙暦8世紀末、ながい抗争をくりひろげてきた人類の歴史は、2人の天才の出現によって、大きな転機を迎えようとしていた。
覇権をめざす若き獅子、帝国軍上級大将ラインハルト・フォン・ローエングラム。後に「常勝の天才」「獅子帝」と呼ばれた彼は、旧体制のもとで停滞する帝国内で確固たる勢力を確立する。
自由同盟軍においては一介の青年士官に過ぎなかったヤン・ウェンリー。後に「不敗の名将」「魔術師ヤン」「奇跡のヤン」と評された彼は、母国の体制の腐敗を嘆き、戦争そのものへの嫌悪を抱きながらも、数々の戦いに携わる事になる。
